Mountain House: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Architecture

David Guerra's Award-Winning Design Balances Natural Elements with Contemporary Aesthetics

David Guerra's Mountain House, a residential project nestled in the heart of Brazil, is a testament to the harmonious blend of nature and architecture. This award-winning design, inspired by the surrounding landscape, serves as a weekend retreat for a family, offering a unique combination of contemporary aesthetics and natural materials.

The Mountain House is set in a valley surrounded by mountains, offering breathtaking views from every corner of the house. The design was conceived with the intention of creating a space that would serve as a platform for contemplation and sociability. The choice of furniture and design elements was carefully curated to reflect the personal history and values of the family, rather than following a particular trend.

What sets this design apart is its unique layout. The entire house is distributed on a single level, making it perfect for appreciating the surrounding views. The materials used in the construction of the house were chosen for their beauty, comfort, and ease of maintenance. These include reclaimed wood, stones, earthenware, bamboo, tile, fiber, metal, stainless steel, double glazed and laminated glass, glass tile, anodized aluminum, wood venetian and tecnocimento.

The house spans an area of 745 square meters, with the site extending up to 5000 square meters. The structure is made of steel and wood, with the use of wood on the floor, walls, and ceiling, as well as the massive wooden doors, contributing to the acoustic comfort of the space. The verandas, made of steel structure, bamboo, and polycarbonate, offer shading and create a village-like atmosphere.

The design of the Mountain House was a result of a close collaboration between the architect and the clients. Through casual talks, direct questions, and a willingness to find common ground, a unique design was created that catered to the diverse tastes of the family members. The challenge was to find a harmonious solution for the mixture of natural, rustic, and contemporary elements and their materials.

David Guerra's Mountain House is a shining example of how architecture can blend seamlessly with nature. The design was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2016, a testament to its outstanding design and trendsetting creation. The Mountain House is not just a residential project, but a reflection of the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
